Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day through cinematic excellence!

The independent short film “Dancing man”, is a product of friendship and solidarity. Actor Svein André Hofsø and photographer Bjørn Wad have a mutual passion for movies and a commitment to raising awareness around Downs syndrome stigma. This companionship initiated a unique collaboration. The result is “Dancing man”; a captivating and beautiful film, with immense quality.

In the film, Svein Andrés character transforms Oslo’s famous Grand Hotel, to the beats of Øystein Grenis song You got it. Maybe he also can transform the spectators perception of people with Downs syndrome?

“This short film is important, because it shows what people with learning disability can do and what we can represent. It has been fun, but also hard work, to be on set. But that’s the way the movie business is”, says Svein André Hofsø. He is already an experienced actor and esteemed self-advocate, with several acclaimed film productions on his CV.

For four days, from dawn till dusk, Svein André has given it all in front of the camera. We’ve had so much fun, but also felt the pressure to perform, the weight of the importance of the task – both in front of and behind the camera. I am really proud of this work», says Bjørn Wad.

World Down Syndrome Day is an important occasion we try to celebrate every year. We want it to be a day of joy and pride, for people with Down Syndrome, their friends and family. This year, because of the pandemic, we are not able to gather and celebrate as a community. We are extremely happy to be able to launch this magnificent film instead”, says board member Maria Belland Olsen.

The film is produced for the Norwegian Network for Down Syndrome, by the production company Gjøkeredet.
